This piece is based on a line from a poem, which reads “Red is the Dance in the Fire of the Sea”. It was chosen due to the wide range of symbolism that it could construe. Due to the physical elements within the poem, such as dance, fire and sea, video was chosen as the output medium so as best to represent their power and movement. The strong contrasts in the words coming together led to an interest in collaborating the poem with the story of Romeo and Juliet, as it is also about opposition and overcoming differences. The final piece shows a representation of the poem, according to the story of Romeo and Juliet, where the theme of red plays throughout the piece, connoting the tragedy of their romance.
